September Flower: Aster

Our design team has put together some fun cards and tips using September’s flower! These would make wonderful birthday cards for someone who is celebrating next month.

Clean & Simple

Aster-LisaThis clean and simple card was made using our September Flower of the Month digi stamp – the Aster. We printed it on white cardstock & colored it with Copics. We ran the copics fat end along the border of the asters square to create a border.

We drew in some coordinating leaves on the card base and then mounted the aster panel over it.

Quick and easy!

Deep Colors

Aster-JeanneJeanne  created this beauty with our Aster digi this month! The colors and composition make the flowers really stand out.

The background paper with leaves picks up a similar theme as the card above. However, the card takes an entirely different look with the diagonal panel placement and the added yellow ribbon and dot accents!

This month’s tips on purples & on coloring the Asters

Aster-ChrisChris actively teaches Copics and has agreed to use our flower of the month designs focusing on a single color. We will do this each month and publish her tips here!

“This design poses a few challenges for copic artists. The petals are narrow, and if you are familiar with copics, you know they like to bleed. To help prevent the ink from wandering on the card stock I colored this image from dark to light. I also recommend coloring one petal at a time. Purples tend to be a little harder to blend than other colors in the spectrum. Working while the ink is wet will help smooth out harsh lines. I used BV17, V17, V15, V12 to color this flower. I added the BV17 to help darken up the petals near the center of the flower. It adds a bit more contrast to the petals. However, you are new copics, I suggest leaving out the BV17. It will help making the blending process easier.”
